  Duties of Letter Box Peon  

               

       Letter Box attendants are required to know the hours at which the letter boxes in their beats are cleared and at which mails are dispatched from and delivered at the post office. It is their duty punctually to clear the letter box in their beats and also to bring to the postmaster notice any damage or defect any letter box that may be observed by them.

Clearance of Outside Letter Boxes.
When a letter box attendants is about to proceed on his rounds , the postmaster or responsible assistant should make over to him the keys of the letter boxes , the changeable hours plate (When letter boxes are provided with these plates) and a bag in which to place article found in the letter boxes. After the last letter box has been cleared, the attendants must return without delay the post office where the postmaster of responsible assistant will receive from him the keys of letter boxes , the hours plates and the bag. The keys of the letter box and hours plate of the letter box must be kept in safe custody in the postmaster or responsible assistant and never given out the letter box attendants expect the hours fixed for them to leave the post office for the purpose of clearing the letter box

The tasks a Letter Box, Peon is expected to perform include:

✅Collecting letters from letter boxes installed within allocated areas at scheduled hours and delivering them to the post office
✅Following a planned route to clear letter boxes at fixed hours
✅ Removing plates indicating the hour of clearance and replacing it with new plates indicating the next clearance hour
✅Locking letter boxes and ensuring proper fixation of hour plate and locks
✅Clearing all letter boxes and delivering bags containing mail to the post office
✅Sorting incoming and outgoing mails at the post office
✅ Stamping letters and covers, seal bags and load or unload them from mail vans
✅ Letter box attendants are not permitted to pay MO and TMOs
✅ Letter Box attendants employed in post office that have town sub office or branch sub office attached to them may be employed in addition to their duties, in conveying mails to and from the town sub office or branch office
✅ Their service may also be utilized as Packer Duties of Letter Box Peon
