Felicitation Programme for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDSs) in Eastern Zone to be Held in Bhubaneswar

The Department of Posts has announced that a felicitation programme for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDSs) will be organized on 26th September 2025 at 5:00 PM in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The event will be held under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Minister of Communications, with the Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications gracing the occasion.

Purpose of the Event

The felicitation ceremony is aimed at recognizing the outstanding performance of GDSs from six postal circles in the Eastern Zone — Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and North East Circle. This initiative seeks to honor excellence, motivate GDSs across the country, and highlight their critical role in strengthening postal services in rural areas.

Key Arrangements

As the host circle, Odisha Circle has been entrusted with organizing the programme. Arrangements will include:

  • Finalization of a suitable venue (capacity 800–1000 participants).

  • Boarding, lodging, meals, and transportation for awardees and participants.

    • Live streaming of the event in coordination with the Directorate’s Marketing Division.

    • Live transcription of speeches of Hon’ble Ministers into Odia.

    • Preparation of felicitation kits, certificates, and mementos for awardees.

    • Ensuring protocol requirements for the dignitaries.

    Participation Details

    • Each of the six Eastern Zone circles will nominate 5 top-performing GDSs for felicitation and 5 additional GDSs as participants, along with a supervisory officer.

    • The selection of awardees will be based on performance criteria such as account openings, insurance business, article booking/delivery, and digital transactions.

      • Profiles and success stories of the nominated GDSs will be shared in advance with the Directorate and host Circle.

      Role of Marketing Division

    • The Marketing Division will prepare and dispatch felicitation kits, including:

      • A bag

      • A cap

      • A memento

      • A jacket

      The division will also coordinate the live streamingpublicity, and overall promotion of the event.

      Broader Context: GDS Workshops

      This felicitation is part of a broader initiative announced earlier in March 2025 to hold zonal GDS workshops across India. These workshops are designed to:

      • Review the functioning of Branch Post Offices (BOs).

      • Share success stories and best practices.

      • Motivate GDSs through recognition of excellence.

      • Formulate a roadmap for improving operations and technology at the ground level.

      Workshops are planned across four zones: Northern Zone (Uttar Pradesh)Southern Zone (Tamil Nadu)Western Zone (Gujarat), and Eastern Zone (West Bengal), in addition to the felicitation event in Odisha.

      Significance

      With nearly 2.7 lakh GDSs managing 1.4 lakh Branch Post Offices, GDSs form the backbone of India Post’s rural network. Their efforts in mail delivery, financial inclusion, insurance, and digital services are vital to connecting rural India with the mainstream economy.
