Subject: Comments on the proposed change in nomenclature of the Postal Service Group 'B' cadre – reg.

Madam/Sir,

I am directed to say that a proposal on the above subject has been received from the Personnel Division of this Directorate.

  1. According to the Personnel Division, while examining a proposal for amendment in the Recruitment Rules of the Postal Service Group 'B' Cadre, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has observed that the existing nomenclature "Postal Service Group 'B'" appears ambiguous, as the term "Service" denotes service classification rather than the name of a post. It has, therefore, been considered necessary to undertake a comprehensive examination of the matter before finalizing any alternative nomenclature.
  2. In this regard, it is stated that the Group 'B' cadre comprises posts functioning across different establishments such as Post Offices, Railway Mail Service (RMS), Parcel Sorting Divisions (PSDs), Business Post Centres (BPCs), Circle/Regional/Divisional Offices, and other units. Therefore, the views of all Postal Circles are essential in the matter.
  3. Accordingly, Circles are requested to furnish their comments, including suitable alternative nomenclature(s) for the cadre, along with detailed justification, keeping in view the functional diversity and responsibilities of the Group 'B' posts across various establishments.
  4. The comments of the Circle may kindly be furnished to this Directorate within 15 days from the date of issue of this letter to facilitate further examination of the proposal.

Yours faithfully,

(Digitally signed)

(Prabha Sharma)
ADG (PE-I/SCT)
L/O Assistant Director General (PE-II)
